Meet Karen Browning
Winner of the British Glass Biennale 2022, Best in Show, for her body of work Miss.Spent-Youth, Karen Browning uses cast and polished glass to alter our perceptions of space through the material's reflections. Her work is bold, dramatic yet intensely researched. She holds a degree in Architecture from Oxford Brookes University, a Masters in Site-Specific Sculpture from Wimbledon School of Art and a Masters in Glass from Swansea Institute. Since 2004, Karen has worked as Colin Reid’s assistant, honing her casting and polishing skills under his influence.
About The Work
Karen Browning uses cast and polished glass to alter perceptions of space through its reflections. Black mirrors have been used throughout history, from the mystical, scrying and moon viewing, to the technological and aesthetic, for example the Claude Glass used by 17th century landscape painters.
Karen Browning has used glass as recurrent medium throughout her career, she holds a degree in Architecture, Oxford Brooke’s University, a Masters in site-specific sculpture, Wimbledon School of Art and a Masters in Glass, from Swansea Institute.
