Jinya Zhao’s breathtaking small installations synthesize design and sculpture. Playful compositions of delicately coloured, matte, blown glass shapes probe the subtle relationships and tensions of modulated colour, form and structure. Striving to express an aesthetic she describes as ‘non-existent existence’ she employs colour gradients, opacity and translucence together with cleverly designed inserts to create shadowy, enigmatic entities that evoke architectonic forms in mist - the mists of time itself.
